THE DAY BEFORE

1. Exfoliate the Day Before: Exfoliation is a crucial step to achieving an even and smooth base for your spray tan. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub to remove any dead skin cells and impurities. Pay special attention to areas with rough skin, such as elbows, knees, and ankles. This step helps the tanning solution adhere evenly to your skin. ON THE DAY

1. Wear Loose Clothes on Tanning Day: On the day of your spray tan appointment, wear loose-fitting clothing to prevent friction and rubbing against your freshly tanned skin. The spray tan solution has two major elements - there is an element that is visible straight away - this is mostly to guide the therapist in applying the solution. The second element is what causes the skin to develop a tan. This element is active for an additional 8 hrs after your tan is applied which is why it is important not to disturb the tan in that time. Tight clothes or those that have to be pulled on against the body or those that will rub against the body will remove this tanning solution. 4. Avoid Touching or Rubbing: While the tanning solution may appear visible on your skin immediately after the application, it's important to remember that it continues to develop for several hours. During this time, avoid touching or rubbing your skin to ensure that the solution remains even on your skin so that your tan develops evenly.
5. Avoid washing your hands! Washing your hands while the solution is still developing will cause it become patchy on your hands or be washed off altogether.
6. Wait Before Showering: Your spray tan technician will provide guidance on when it's safe to shower after your appointment. Typically, it's recommended to wait at least 8-12 hours before rinsing off the excess solution. This allows the tan to fully develop and last longer.

AFTER

1. Maintain Your Tan: To prolong the life of your spray tan, continue moisturizing daily and avoid exfoliating until you're ready for the tan to fade. Pat your skin dry after showering instead of vigorously rubbing it with a towel. This is important as it is the very outer layer of your skin that has been tanned, so moisturising and not rubbing help that outer layer to remain in place longer.
2. Avoid Chlorinated Water: While your tan is developing and afterward, try to avoid chlorinated pools and hot tubs, as these can cause your tan to fade more quickly.
3. Once you're tan, be sure to protect it with sunscreen and avoid excessive sweating.
