Teen Skin Confidence Combatting Acne
With back-to-school just around the corner, it’s a whirlwind of preparation—uniforms, books, and backpacks are all on the list. For those starting high school, it’s an exciting new chapter filled with changes, including one that often gets overlooked: skin changes. As hormones kick in, many teenagers find themselves dealing with skin issues that can be embarrassing and impact their confidence. At Ella Baché, we understand how important clear, healthy skin is during these formative years. That’s why we’ve developed skincare routines tailored specifically for teenagers, using gentle yet effective products that treat the skin without harsh chemicals.
Consistency is key, but with regular cleansing and a bit of diligence, amazing results are possible. Just take it from Sarah (Name Changed), whose story is proof of how life-changing proper skincare can be. Sarah Story
About a year ago, when I was 14, I struggled with pretty bad skin. I had large white lumps of pimples on my chin, red and swollen cheeks, and lots of blackheads. I was really frustrated and ready for a change.
When I visited Ella Baché, they explained that we needed to address the excess oil on my skin and the bacteria living in that oil. They started with a facial to test how my skin reacted to their products and sent me home with a tailored skincare routine.
My new routine included a cleanser that removed excess oil without leaving my skin feeling tight, a retinol night serum to help regulate oil flow and reduce scarring, a lightweight moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Some things improved right away—my red cheeks calmed down quickly—but other changes took a little longer. After six months, my skin looked completely different. The white bumps under my skin were gone, the redness had disappeared, and most of the blackheads had cleared up. Now my skin feels and looks healthy, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Salon Information
When Sarah started coming to the salon, her skin was dehydrated and had an oil buildup—both under the surface as white lumps and in her open pores as blackheads. We focused on a gentle cleanser to control oil production without stripping her skin or unbalancing its pH (a common cause of swollen, red skin in teenagers). Stripping the skin can also trigger more oil production as a defense mechanism. The cleanser was designed to gently clean and balance her skin.
We recommended Sarah use our enzyme exfoliant once or twice a week. Mixed with water and left on the skin for up to three minutes before rinsing, it removes dead skin, refines pores, and helps reduce blackheads.
The Retinol Night Serum was a key part of Sarah’s skincare routine. This powerful active ingredient not only stimulates collagen production to help with scarring but also reduces oil production, making it excellent for oily skin. Because retinol is so active, Sarah started using it once a week, gradually increasing to every other night and eventually nightly.
To keep her skin hydrated, Sarah used the lightweight, non-greasy Emulsion Tomate, which prevented dryness without clogging her pores. For spot treatment, she applied the classic Crème Intex No. 2, which contains zinc and fish oil to dry out pimples and promote healing without over-drying the skin.
To address dehydration, Sarah used a hyaluronic acid serum, which holds water in the skin. She applied it morning and night under the Emulsion Tomate. During the day, she also used our Face Saver sunscreen. Since retinol increases sun sensitivity, and Sarah has fair skin, sunscreen was essential.
Sarah's skin responded well to the routine. Surface redness and dryness improved almost immediately, and her oil production stabilized when she began using retinol every second day. Over time, as her oil production normalized, the pockets of oil beneath her skin disappeared.
Now, Sarah’s skin is clear, hydrated, and healthy—and it will stay that way. We’ll adjust her routine as she gets older and her tendency toward oily skin diminishes. Sarah followed our basic acne treatment plan, which works effectively for most teenagers we treat.
